The local conditions decide how long drying takes and how far the damage really extends. Persistent coastal humidity means outside air brings moisture rather than removing it, so a closed envelope with mechanical dehumidification does the work here -- and materials that feel dry at the surface routinely are not. Slab-on-grade construction over a high water table hides the extent, because water migrates under flooring and into wall bases well past the visible edge, with nothing above to show for it. Flat grades mean surface water that reaches a structure spreads laterally instead of running off. Salt air and wind-driven rain add the storm variant: water entering high, through an envelope opened by wind, travels down inside walls and appears far from where it got in.
